SID GAUTAMA (GB)
The Jakarta (Indonesia) born artist, Sid Gautama, became interested in music from a young age and soon
realized that he was mainly fascinated by rhythm and that it would become the driving force of his musical
career.
So he concentrated on rhythm and started playing drums and percussion at a very young age.
Influenced by The Shadows, The Beatles, Small Faces and later Jimi Hendrix, he began his musical career as
the drummer, and youngest member, of school bands in the 70`s. When he discovered Blues, R&B, Latin
music as well as the African rhythms, it became clear to him that rhythm connects all music genres and
nations.
When he discovered Frank Zappa, there were no longer any taboos for him and he could free himself of all
music genre barriers. His professional career as a drummer began in the 70’s as the youngest member of the
Jazz/Rock band AERA. That’s where he learnt what the essence of a band is. The first tours and experiences
in studio and live recordings intensified his music drive even more. In the mid-70`s he joined the Mannheimbased Glamrock band NINE DAYS WONDER and toured Europe with NDW and drummed two albums before he moved to Hamburg in 1977.
In Hamburg he played in various band formations simultaneously, for example with the rock ladies JUTTA
WEINHOLD, CARO and INGA RUMPF. It was there that he began his career as a studio drummer, playing
in various studios and was involved in a wide range of recordings in varying musical genres.
In the late 70`s he recorded the second ELECTRIC SUN album with the guitarist ULI JON ROTH (ex-
SCORPIONS) in the Olympic Sound Studio, London. He joined the band on two European tours in the early
80’s.
Back in Hamburg, he drummed in the studio for DIETER BOHLEN.
Together with JOY RYDER, from the New York CBGB club scene, he recorded two albums in West Berlin,
the second of which was produced by GENYA RAVAN, and toured across Western Germany, former East
Germany and Poland.
This was followed by recordings with PRIMA KLIMA and the BERNWARD BÜKER BANDE, with whom
he toured through Germany during the “Neue Deutsche Welle” (the German New Wave era). In the mid-80’s
he produced two singles and extended remixes on CBS and EMI for the electronic pop band CONEY
ISLAND.
The influence of electronic music in the 80’s/90’s, and also Prince’s music gave him a fresh momentum to
produce his first electronic music. Under the name SID GAUTAMA he produced his first track Ennio’s
Dance for the dancefloor compilation Danceteria Vol. 1.
Beyond his work as a studio and session drummer, he engaged himself deeply in the world of “Electronic
Dance Music”. In the early 2000’s he toured Europe with the psytrance act HARA GOBI and produced his
first psytrance album in 2002. That was the birth of DARI SANA. He produced three albums and 3 EP’s and
performed at European festivals and clubs as DARI SANA live act as well as DJ SID GAUTAMA.
The musical development in the EDM scene continued and he produced S.I.D., a tech house album and an EP.
With the SID GAUTAMA album “Hug The World” he has found his identity in the popular dancefloor scene.

Der in Jakarta/Indonesien geborene Rhythmiker, Sid Gautama, hat sich schon in jungen Jahren sehr für
Musik interessiert. Schnell stellte er fest, daß der Rhythmus ihn am meisten faszinierte und dieser sein
Leitfaden in der musikalischen Laufbahn werden sollte.
So beschäftigte er sich intensiv mit dem Rhythmus und spielte schon in sehr jungen Jahren Schlagzeug und
Percussion.
Von den Shadows, den Beatles, Smal Faces und später Jimi Hendrix beeinflusst, begann er in den 70ern in
Schülerbands als Schlagzeuger und, der Jüngste im Bunde, seine musikalische Laufbahn.
Als er dann den Blues, R&B, Latin als auch die afrikanischen Rhythmen kennenlernte,
war ihm bewusst: Rhythmik verbindet alle Musik, Genres und Völker.
Als er Frank Zappa entdeckte, gab es für ihn kein Tabu mehr und er konnte sich von Barrieren der
verschiedenen Musikgenres befreien.
Seine Profi-Laufbahn als Schlagzeuger begann in den 70ern als der jüngste in der Jazz/Rock-Formation
AERA. Dort lerne er worauf es bei einer Band ankommt. Die ersten Tourneen und Erfahrungen im
Studio/Live-Recording hatten seinen eigenen Antrieb in der Musik um soviel mehr gestärkt.
Mitte der 70er ging er zu der Mannheimer Glamourrock-Formation
NINE DAYS WONDER.
Tourte in Europa mit NDW und trommelte bis er 1977 nach Hamburg ging, zwei Alben.
In Hamburg spielte er in verschiedenen Formationen gleichzeitig, u.a. bei den damaligen Rockladies JUTTA
WEINHOLD, CARO und INGA RUMPF.
In Hamburg begann er auch seine Laufbahn als Drummer in verschiedenen Studios und beteiligte sich an
vielfältigen Aufnahmen in verschiedenen Stilrichtungen.
Ende der 70er nahm er mit dem Gitarristen ULI JON ROTH (ex Scorpions) im Londoner Olympic Sound
Studio das zweite ELECTRIC SUN Album auf und ging mit der Band Anfang der 80er auf zwei Europa-
Tourneen.
Zurück in Hamburg trommelte er im Studio für DIETER BOHLEN.
Mit der aus der New Yorker CBGB Club-Szene stammenden JOY RYDER nahm er in West-Berlin zwei
Alben auf, letztere wurde von GENYA RAVAN produziert und tourte durch West-Deutschland, DDR und
Polen.
Es folgten unter anderem Recordings mit PRIMA KLIMA und BERNWARD BÜKER BANDE. Mit BBB
ging er in der Neue Deutsche Welle - Zeit auf Deutschland-Tournee.
Mitte der 80er produziert er mit der Electronic Pop Band CONEY ISLAND für CBS und EMI zwei Singles
und Extanded Remixes.
Die Einflüsse der elektronischen Musik in den 80/90er Jahren, sowie auch die Musik von PRINCE haben
ihm neue Impulse gegeben. Er begann seine erste elektronische Musik zu produzieren.
Mit dem Namen SID GAUTAMA produzierte er seinen ersten Titel Ennio's Dance für den Dancefloor
Compilation Danceteria vol. 1.
Ausserhalb seiner Tätigkeit als Studio- und Sessiondrummer befasst er sich tief mit der Materie "Electronic
Dance Music".
In den 2000ern ging er als Live E-Drummer mit der Psy-Trance-Act HARA GOBI auf Europa-Tournee. Im
Jahre 2002 produzierte er sein erstes Psy-Trance Album.
DARI SANA war geboren. Drei Alben und drei EP's produzierte er, und trat als DARI SANA live Act wie
auch Dj SID GAUTAMA auf Europa-Festivals und in Clubs auf.
Die musikalische Entwicklung in der Electronic Dance Music ging weiter und er produzierte S.I.D., ein Tech House-Album und eine EP.
Mit dem SID GAUTAMA Album "Hug The World" hat er seine Identität in der populären Dancefloor - Szene
gefunden.
